This new Irish TV advert aims to deter doping in sport. It's very strong, but will it work?

The new anti doping clip by the Irish Sports Council contains a strong message and starts with cycling before a large number of other codes are featured with 'black mark' athletes.

While the main element of the fight against doping by Irish athletes takes the shape of drug testing and bans for infringements, the Irish Sports Council is now aiming to prick at the consciousnesses of drug users or those feeling tempted.

It has launched the #blackmark campaign, with the video below as its centre piece.

The clip aims to stigmatise drug taking and its weighty theme suggests that every move you make as an athlete is dirty if you’re competing dirty.

It was launched at a recent event organised by the council to highlight changes to its anti doping code due to come into effect from January 1st.

The Irish Sports Council published the clip online accompanied by the following text:

The discipline, talent and sheer effort that elite athletes put into their work is mind-blowing.
