The prize money at the Giro d'Italia may be less than the Tour de France, but there was still €1.6 million up for grabs in cash prizes; from intermediate sprints and climbs to stage wins and holding the classification jerseys, even the Red Bull KM.

The biggest prizes, of course, are for the general classification, but there are also a range competitions that all offer cash, from the points and climbers' classifications to the young rider competition, team classification and the inter Giro competition. There are even prizes for the most aggressive riders, each day and overall, and for the longest breakaway of each stage, and overall.

The 2025 champion, Simon Yates, and his Visma-Lease a Bike team were the biggest winners this year; his €265,668 for winning the final maglia rosa contributing to the €390,690 the team won during the three week race. Indeed, Yates won €294,107, seven-times more than then next highest earner in his team, Olav Kooij.

After Visma-Lease a Bike, the next team in the prize money list was UAE Team Emirates-XRG on €298,031, though that would have been much higher had Isaac del Toro and his managers made a mess of things on the penultimate stage and lost the overall. But the lowest earning team won just €10,300 (full list below this story).

Lidl-Trek were next, with €148,265, followed by EF Education-EasyPost on €102,740, XDS Astana Team with €62,045 and Red Bull-Bora-hansgrohe winning €58,172; the latter really missing Primoz Roglic who abandoned after multiple crashes.

The Giro prize money is mor complicated than in other races. For example, though Yates won €115,668 for his GC victory, but there is also a 'special prize fund' under which he gets an extra €150,000 - making for €265,668 for overall victory.

Isaac del Toro won a total of €133,412 for his 2nd place and Richard Carapaz (EF Education-EasyPost) claimed €68,800.
