Now fighting for her life in hospital as a result of injuries sustained cycling in Dublin last Friday, there’s been a huge response to the fundraising drive for Thames Tavares and her family. Above, on her wedding day with her mother and husband just two months ago.
Some €10,000 has been raised for the family of a cyclist left in a coma after a collision in Dublin late last week.
Thames Tavares, a 30-year-old from Brazil now living in Ireland, is gravely injured after the crash.
The collision she sustained her injuries in involved a car being driven by a 31-year-old woman.
Gardai are investigating the collision, in Clondalkin at about 3.30pm last Friday, to determine the exact circumstances.
The injured woman got married to her Irish partner just two months ago. Now that she is so badly injured, a fundraising effort has begun.
It was established so enough could be raised to bring Ms Tavares’ mother to Ireland so she could be with her daughter.
The GoFundMe campaign was established with a target of €10,000; for travel expenses and an extended stay in Ireland.
And today, just days after it went live, the target has been all but reached. At the time of writing some €9,764 had been raised
Garda Headquarters issued a statement outlining some of the details of last Friday’s incident.
