Matt Teggart and Sean McKenna are both in the An Post-Chainreaction team for Paris-Troyes (UCI 1.2) in France this weekend.

Their team mate Conor Hennebry is going it alone in Belgium. He travels despite being the sole rider the team has entered into the Omloop van het Waasland (1.2). Both races take place on Sunday.

The weekend marks the first UCI-ranked one-day race McKenna and Hennebry will ride this season.

Having enjoyed an excellent Volta ao Alentejo last month, McKenna will be hopeful of a good ride in France.

And having seen a knee injury force him onto the sidelines last month, Teggart will be looking to come through in one piece.

Team manager Kurt Bogaerts believes Matt Teggart can get back to business immediately.

“Matthew made a promising come back in Belgium last week so he’s shown that he’s fit," he said of a kermesse on Wednesday.

“For him now it’s just a case of getting some racing in to his legs and to start being in the mix at results time.

“But I’m confident that will come. I expect him and Sean to be right in the action on Sunday.”

Hennebry's rapid progress

Crashes and injuries have taken their toll on the team in recent weeks. And those troubles appear to be the reason a full team is not being sent to Belgium.

To his immense credit, Hennebry (below) is keen to get stuck in so he is going alone in the 169km event.

The 24-year-old was racing mostly in Ireland last year. He rode some amateur events in Belgium amd scored a number of wins.

And on the basis of a great season at home, including winning the Tour of Ulster, he secured a place with the team.

A late comer to cycling, he has made huge progress in a couple of seasons. You can read about his rapid rise by following this link.

Back to this weekend, Teggart and McKenna will be joined in France by Bas Tietema from Holland, Jacob Scott from Britain and Premislav Kasperkiewicz from Poland.

Also racing is Sean MacKinnon from Canada who has overcome a horrible crash a few weeks ago.

Massimo Vanderaerden from Belgium is also riding, as is German Jonas Bokeloh.

It is nine years since the An Post-ChainReaction team have competed in the French road race.

The course takes the peloton south-east of the capital city towards the medieval town of Troyes. At 168km, and with a series of short climbs, it is always a war of attrition.
