A teenage cyclist has been left seriously injured after a crash involving driver in Galway

A teenager cycling a bike has been left seriously injured after a collision in Co Galway involving a driver in a car.

News of the serious crash has emerged just two days after the death of another cyclist in Dublin in a collision with the driver of a truck.

The latest incident took place on Tuesday night in Galway, with the cyclist currently in hospital with serious injuries.

"At around 8pm, Gardaí and emergency services responded to a collision involving a car and a pedal cyclist at Claregalway on the N83, formerly the N17," Garda Headquarters said in a statement.

"The cyclist - a male juvenile in his teens - was brought by ambulance to University Hospital Galway, where he is being treated for serious injuries.

"A technical examination of the scene was carried out by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators and the road has since fully reopened. Gardaí are appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward.

"Road users who may have camera footage, including dash-cam footage between Loughgeorge and Claregalway between 8:00pm and 8:30pm are asked to make this available to investigating gardaí."
