Under-fire Team Sky boss Dave Brailsford has said he has no intention of resigning his position.

This is despite the ongoing controversy over the contents of a medical package sent to the team at the Criterium du Dauphiné in 2011.

The former performance director of British Cycling, Brailsford has been in the eye of a storm over exactly what the package contained.

Team Sky has said the bag contained Fluimucil, an over the counter decongestant. But there are no records to support the claim.

When his star rider Chris Froome refused to publicly back him his position was weakened.

And in a leaked independent review of British Cycling, Brailsford was described as “untouchable”. It also said there was a climate of fear.

The report added Brailsford treated staff "like second class citizens".

However, he has received support from the Sky board and many riders and staff.

He had not spoken to the media since Team Sky’s training camp in Mallorca in early January. But he did respond to questions from Cycling Weekly and cyclingnews at Tirreno-Adriatico today.

He denied he had anything to hide and that he intends to continue in his role at the helm of the team.

“Of course I’m not hiding. I’m fine in myself and I’ve got confidence in my team,” he said.

Brailsford concerned with winning races

“My thoughts are about what’s good for the team and what’s right. We’re just here to win as many races as possible and do it the right way. And that’s my primary concern and that’s what I think about.

“I’m disappointed that anything from the past, I’m not saying there was any wrongdoing."

He was "very disappointed" current riders in the team were being put in pressure over matters they were not involved in.

"On the other hand, we’ve got to move forward. Personally, I’m fine.”

On Froome’s refusal to back Brailsford while other riders Tweeted their support he simply said: “We had a good conversation, that’s it.”
