Two riders leading the French women's junior road race championships, and on their way to the medals, crashed after one of their team car's ran into the other rider's back wheel.
Amandine Muller (Grand Est) et Célia Gery (Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes) were up the road in a two-rider move when the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes team car pulled alongside Gery to speak to her.
As the driver of the vehicle chatted to the rider, the front left of the car clipped Muller's back wheel. She crashed to the tarmac immediately, with Gery then crashing into her.
Thankfully there were no broke bones or other injuries and both riders were able to resume the race. Indeed, they went on to win gold and silver; Gery taking the title from Gery by 3:42.
Amalia Debarges (Lyon Sprint Evolution) took the bronze medal, finishing 1:01 behind Gery after 81.9km of racing in Altkirch yesterday.
