Team ASEA may have lost elite national road race champion Damien Shaw for 2016 but it has received some considerable sponsorship for the new season.
Cycling and triathlon retailer Wheelworx is coming on board as co-sponsor, with the team to be rebranded as ASEA-Wheelworx.
Bike manufacturers Trek will supply the team with ‘Emonda’ mounts for the 2016 campaign.
And while the squad has not made any announcement about new riders coming on board, stickybottle understands several riders - male and female - are joining the line-up for next year.
All of the developments should make the team stronger but will also add to its ranks, having started this year with a relatively modest number of athletes.
The year just gone was a superb one for the men in blue but top rider Bryan McCrystal was keen to see the team evolve and capitalise on its success.
“We were very well looked after this year and wanted for nothing," said the National Road Series winner and new national IronMan record holder.
"It’s a sign that the sport is moving in the right direction here and that we did something right that we've managed to get some very generous backers on board for next year.
“Wheelworx are going to be our co-sponsor so we hope to be able to give them a return for the support they’re giving us.”
The team has some of the best riders in the country in McCrystal, Fraser Duncan, Roger Aiken and Adam Armstrong, among others, but is keen to develop a female team and an U23 team.
And while Damien Shaw is a big loss, McCrystal said everyone in the Team Asea set-up was delighted for him in moving on to the An Post-Chainreaction team.
We will bring you news of Team ASEA's new signings just as soon as we have it.
