A large field is expected on the start line tomorrow morning, Saturday, for the first event in Dublin of the cyclocross season.

The first round of the SuperCross Cup is to go ahead at Grange Castle Business Park, Condalkin.

The organisers say the ‘A’ race has been sold out since midweek. However, a ‘B’ race has been able to absorb some of those who wanted to ride the ‘A’ race but found that the entries closed.

The ‘B’ race is designed to for those riders who have no experience in cyclocross or prefer to opt for a slightly easier event. Entries are closed for both races.

The B race will start at 11.30am and will last for approximately 40 minutes for the winner, with all other competitors expected to be home within ten minutes of the winner. Juniors and U16s can ride the B race.

The A race will start at 12.45pm and is expected to last approximately one hour.

In the A race there are cash prizes for the first six across the line, first vet and first team.

Robin Seymour, Evan Ryan and Conor Campbell, winners at last year’s national championships, will be battling it out again along with experienced MTB and road riders in the A event.

In the B race there are prizes for the first three as well as for first junior, woman and U16. The field in each race is being limited to 60 riders.

Tomorrow’s race is the second of the Irish season, with former national champion Roget Aiken taking the opening event in the Ulster Cup in Lurgan last weekend. Tomorrow’s is the first of the Dublin-based SuperCup events; a five-race league series that runs until December 3rd.

The Clondalkin course has been in pristine condition of late, though the recent rain will likely lead to muddy and tricky conditions tomorrow.

The course includes a 300-metre start and finish tarmac section, which should lend itself to a fast race. It may also give the road riders a slight edge if it came down to a sprint finish.

Most of the course can be seen from one or two locations which makes it spectator friendly. Fans will be able to get close to the riders on the technical sections such as the banks and hurdles.

The course has been designed by Team WORC’s Stuart Galloway in association with Pfizer Grange Castle’s cycling club; Grange Castle Wheelers.

A large crowd is expected and there are dedicated parking facilities at the adjoining Pfizer Ireland site. There will be no parking available anywhere in the Business Park other than the Pfizer car park.
