Sunday’s Shay Elliott Memorial, promoted by Bray Wheelers CC, will be featured on Irish TV channel TG4 next month, the organisers have announced.
A company called Velomoto TV have been commissioned by the Irish-speaking TV channel to run a 30-minute programme on the race which will be screened next month.
“We’re going to have aerial footage from two drones and a moto camera bike following the race too,” said race director John Spain.
“It’s massive news for the race and just enhances its reputation so hopefully, this can mean the race will go from strength to strength and we’ll have an even better edition next year for what will be the 60th running of the event.”
In recent years highlights of the An Post Rás have been screened on RTÉ 2 on the Monday after the race, while the Junior Tour of Ireland and the Suir Valley Three Day have also been screened on Setanta.
“It will make a very aggressive race even more so,” continued Spain.
“We’ve made a big push this year because we’ve always wanted to make the Elliott the biggest one-day race on the calendar.
“Hopefully this news of the TV exposure can spur more foreign teams to come over next year because we want to push up the level of racing here and get more athletes to the next level.
“The next job is to try and get the sponsor on board again for 2017. New Ireland Assurance has really gone out of their way to support us this year and it’s great to have an Irish sponsor so hopefully that can continue.”
