Gortin Glens Forest Park near Omagh, Co Tyrone, has just seen its new mountain bike trails officially opened

The first phase of mountain bike trails, suitable for riders of all skill levels, has just opened, along with a new kids' play area. There's a total of 13km of red and blue trails all set in spectacular countryside.

The facility also features views from the top of Mullaghcarn and Ladies Viewpoint, which are great locations to enjoy the beauty of the Sperrins.

Gortin Glen Forest Park is located six miles north of Omagh and is just off the B48. MTB trails are nothing new to the Glens as the first ones date back some 30 years or so but the official opening of these new trails marks an important milestone.

Gortin Mountain Bike Club, which was founded in 2018, has played an important role in biking in the area and said the newly opened trails have been very well received.

"Given the initial response and reception we are hopeful that there will be further development and expansion in the future," the club said.

"We are super grateful to have reached this point and have such fantastic trails in Gortin-Tyrone, which alongside the walking trails, scenic viewpoints and newly installed children's play area it's sure to be a great family day out."
