A six-strong Irish Junior Development team has been named by Cycling Ireland for the Gorey Three-Day this weekend.
The team has been drawn from the ‘Talent Team 2020’ squad and is the third selection from that stable to be announced for races this weekend; with underage boys and girls teams also named for the Youth Tour of Scotland.
In keeping with the priorities outlined for Talent Team 2020 when it was launched by Cycling Ireland over the winter months, the selection for the Gorey is a development team and is made up of first year juniors only.
It will be the riders’ first taste of stage racing against seniors and Cycling Ireland is keen that those in the selection begin their careers in such races with an emphasis on learning to race as a team.
Other juniors named on the Talent Team 2020 panel when it was unveiled, including those in their first and second years of junior racing, will be riding the Gorey and the Tour of the North with their respective clubs over the weekend.
The team for the Gorey will be riding in a junior development squad kit rather than full Irish national team gear.
All of the riders selected are very strong, though Thomas Fallon has ridden especially well so far this season and having won sprints against seniors he may be one to watch out for in coming days.
