The Irish team for the Junior Tour of Ireland which starts tomorrow reads Jake Gray, Cameron McIntyre, Robert O’Leary and Ronan Tuomey.
It’s an excellent line-up and a real credit to all four who made the final selection as the competition for places has been fierce all season.
Gray is probably the most experienced of the lot and will definitely be their trump card, but all three can do damage and they can each be trusted to lead the team.
NRPT-Magnet.ie man Gray - who was eighth overall last year - has already won several races this season.
Most recently he claimed the Newry Three-Day for the second year in-a-row while in May he took the Shay Elliott Memorial.
He’s represented Ireland already this year so that experience is bound to stand to him this week.
Robert O’Leary deservedly gets his chance after a blistering start to the season when he won the Gorey Three-Day and a stage as well as Rás Luimní.
Tuomey won a couple of stages of the Kanturk Three-Day and is the youngest of the team. He is an able tester and could push for yellow in the prologue tomorrow.
And the last member of the team, McIntyre, has been another to really impose himself in the big races this year.
He won the Bobby Crilly Classic and has rarely been outside the top 10 in any race this year at home.
He’s often had to ride in service of others and usually did so impressively.
They’re a tight-knit bunch with David McCann calling the shots from the team car so a lot will be expected of them.
The race gets underway tomorrow evening at 7pm with a 6.2-kilometre prologue outside Ennis.
