Strade Bianche, Milan Sanremo will go ahead despite coronavirus fears

Julian Alaphilippe comes to the finish line of Strade Bianche in Sienna last year for victory in the Italian classic. Based on the information available to RCS Sports today, the race will go ahead this weekend

While there were fears the coronavirus would result in the cancellation of major Italian races such was Strade Bianche and Milan Sanremo, RCS Sport has told pro cycling teams the races are going ahead as planned.

The only caveat the Italian sports promoters added was that it could not predict if new restrictions would be put in place before the races were due to take place.

However, based on the information available at present
and restrictions around travel and public gathers in place today, RCS Sport’s
major races will go ahead.

Strade Bianche is set for
this Saturday, March 7th, while Tirreno-Adriatico takes place from March 11th
to 17th and Milan-Sanremo will be contested on March 21st.

RCS Sport has contacted the
teams set to ride the races and has told them that, based on the information
available today, the races will take place.

Even before that

Milan Sanremo, for example,

coronavirus and where some towns and villages had travel restrictions imposed.

However, RCS Sport has today

It will, however, monitor the situation in the days and weeks to come and keep in close contact with the authorities tackling the virus in Italy.
