It was a case of what might have been; an alleged bike theft
captured on camera as the Garda arrived on the scene at exactly the right
moment.
But it didn’t end as you may have hoped; the kid suspected
of taking the bike cycling off and the bike itself crushed under the wheels of
a car driven by a passing motorist.
The video below was shot by a cyclist in Rialto, Dublin,
yesterday when he came across what he says was a bike theft in action.

A Garda car appeared on the scene and as it did the spare or
stolen bike was promptly dumped on the street.
It appears the gardai were not exactly sure what was going
on, leaving the suspected thief enough time to cycle off up a towpath.
And though one would have expected the upside was at the
very least the recovery of the allegedly stolen bike, sadly a motorist drove
over it.
