We’re delighted to announce that stickybottle.com is the new title sponsor of the Women’s National League.
We may be just six months into our existence, but we planned from the outset to get involved in supporting Irish cycling; not only through our comprehensive coverage but also by backing some projects.
We’re thrilled the ‘Stickybottle.com Women’s National League’ bears our name and of course we’re looking forward to some great racing in the months ahead, all of which will be covered right here.
The National League has become established in recent years as cornerstone of the women’s racing scene in Ireland.
Past winners include Belgium-based professional Michelle Geoghegan and Sandra Fitzgerald who recently represented Ireland as a tandem pilot in the Paracycling UCI Track World Championships in LA.
The ‘StickyBottle.com Women’s National League’ will be run completely separately from men’s racing, with all events open to senior and junior women riders with Cycling Ireland memberships.
The league offers individual prizes, including the coveted title of ‘StickyBottle.com National League Champion 2012’.
With league racing due to start this coming Sunday at the Waller Cup in Bohermeen, Co Meath, it should become clear very soon who the in-form riders are of 2012.
Sandra Fitzgerald who won the league last year is certain to give a good account of herself.
Freshly landed in Galway, the Spanish ex-pro rider Sara Ortiz impressed the field in Dundalk last Sunday week in her new Black Rose colours.
Also likely to be in the mix will be former Irish champion Geraldine Gill of Bohermeen and former UCI Masters Track World Champion Orla Hendron of Orwell Wheelers. The Irish Road Club’s Caroline Conway and Phoenix CC’s Amy Brice are also likely to make an impression this year after their phenomenal improvements in 2011.
The 2012 series includes five road races and a 16km TT. Last year’s sponsor Joe Daly’s Cycles are also on board again this year as a secondary backer.
