Startlist for ‘Kerry Group Ras Mumhan’; British and European teams in line-up

Kerry Group Ras Mumhan
The organisers of the ‘Kerry Group Ras Mumhan’ have unveiled the official start list for the 2012 event, with six teams from Britain and Continental Europe to challenge the best of Irish over the Easter Weekend.

Defending champion Sean Lacey is making a return to try and defend his title with his team Dan Morrissey-Speedy Spokes. That line-up includes another former winner, Tim Barry. The squad also has a B team in the race, meaning they will have ten riders in total.

Also leading the charge from Ireland are the Eurocycles squad, with the in-from Conor Murphy and Thomas Martin among its squad.

DID Dunboyne have no fewer than 14 riders in the race, including 2012 Waller Cup winner Tim O’Regan, National Hill Climb champion Mark Dowling – who punctured out of the winning move in Carlow yesterday – and strongmen like Neil Delahaye, Stephen O’Sullivan and Aidan Crowley.

One of Kerry’s favourite cycling sons, Eugene Moriarty returns from his base in Holland to ride for the team in what is his home fixture.

Also likely to be in the mix in two weeks are double 2012 race winner and second in Carlow yesterday, Ryan Sherlock (Cycleways); along with Paul Griffin (Tralee BC) and Damien Shaw (Lakeside Mullingar), to name but a few.

The overseas challenge comes from: Microgaming Isle of Man, including former Ras winner Andrew Roche; Felt Colbornes RT from the UK; Ruiter Dakkapellen Wielerteam from Holland; West Frisia also from Holland; Team 100 RPM from the US; and the UK’s Surrey squad.

Siobhan Horgan is riding for her GSD Gestion squad after being given the all clear after her crash in France the weekend before last. Anthony Walsh also makes a return to Irish racing after breaking his collarbone and is riding under his French ‘Apoge Super U’ team colours.

His home team UCD also has a squad in the race. It features a number of riders who have shown some great form lately including Colm Cassidy and Ciaran O’Conluan.

Featuring four stages from Good Friday to Easter Monday – April 6th to 9th – the race has again secured the backing of the Kerry Group and will be based in and around Killorglin.
