European Junior Time Trial (TT) silver medallist, Ryan Mullen will carry the first green jersey of Ireland into battle at the 2012 World Road Race Championships in Holland tomorrow, Monday.

The talented teenager lines out as Ireland’s sole representative in the Junior Men’s TT over a 26.6km course. The route takes in two steep climbs; the Sibbergrube and the Cauberg, both falling into the final quarter of the course.

Mullen is off at 10.34.30am – that’s 30 seconds after 10.34am tomorrow, Monday.

Having placed 16th in the World Junior Championships TT in Copenhagen last year and having been racing on the Continent for most of the summer, Mullen is perhaps Ireland’s best chance of a medal at these Worlds, though Dan Martin may produce something in the elite road race next Sunday.

After Mullen’s junior title race is complete tomorrow morning, it’s then the turn of the Irish U23 men in the afternoon, when Ireland will be represented by Conor Dunne and Sean Downey.

Dunne is the current U23 National TT Champion, while Downey won that title last year.

It will be Dunne’s first U23 World Championships but he has been going well, having taken his first road race win of the year in Belgium last month.

Downey is a more seasoned campaigner and has ridden the Worlds a number of times.

He was 25th in the U23 Worlds TT in Copenhagen last year, and was 11th in the U23 European Championships TT last month. He would dearly love to get top 15 tomorrow.

Dunne is off at 13:39pm tomorrow while Downey is off at 14.15pm.

The 36km U23 course takes in the same two climbs as the juniors, with both ramps to be crested in the back end of the race.
