Cycling Ireland has enlisted the services of a recruitment company, specialising in leadership roles, to find two candidates to fill the governing body’s leading high performance posts.
Cycling Ireland chief executive, Matt McKerrow, said the successful candidates will be charged with establishing a high performance function as Irish cycling builds towards the Paris 2024 Olympics and beyond.
“A key aspect beyond preparation for performance in Paris
is the building of systems and structures for high performance within the
organisation for the future,” he said.
“(This includes)
a focus on the development pathway and an increased level of transparency and
alignment among all disciplines and stakeholders within the cycling community. Each role represents an exciting opportunity to play an integral role in determining and assuring the future of Irish cycling”.
The national governing body said the high performance director – a role filled by Buggle now after the departure of Brian Nugent at the start of the year - will be “responsible for all aspects of our HP operations”.
Their key focus
would be to “provide a
supportive and positive daily training and competition environment for
athletes, coaches, and the programme through the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic
Games campaigns”.
The head track coach would have “responsibility for all aspects of our track programme with a key focus on our Olympic programme for Paris and beyond”.
Whomever secures that job will be “responsible for liaising with key stakeholders and provincial coaches in ensuring a pathway and athlete pipeline is in place” as well as “shaping the focus” of Ireland’s track programme into the future.
