A cyclist in Spain who was in a hurry to pass a driver while descending a hill got more than he bargained for when he hit an oncoming vehicle and was then issued with a hefty fine for causing his own crash.

The footage above shows the cyclist riding behind a vehicle for a time and attempting several times to overtake. When he finally gets the chance he's on a bend and it appears he can't see the oncoming car.

However, he rode into that car head-on and looked like he was shaken as he stayed on the road for a long time after impact. Reports in Spain say he recovered and was the fined €500 for causing the crash, which occurred on Saturday on a provincial road, in the municipality of Campins, Barcelona.

Spain's System of Medical Emergencies (SEM) sent an ambulance to the scene and the cyclist was taken to hospital. When he had recovered enough to deal with the authorities he was fined €500 for reckless cycling.
