A string of good results since the start of the season has seen South Dublin CC's Ben Delaney top the first Cycling Ireland A2 rankings of the year.

He is tied at the top on 26 points with Derek Burke of Seeng.ie, who really hit form last weekend when he won both road stages in the Rás Mhaigh Eo two-day.

A former Murphy & Gunn and Pezula rider, comeback man Burke failed to win the race overall after a poor performance in Sunday morning's stage 2 time trial, with the final yellow jersey going to Ronan Killeen of Lucan CRC.

Delaney was part of the winning four-man breakaway on the opening day in Co Mayo, taking 4th spot. He enjoyed a strong time trial the following morning.

And when he finished in the bunch on Sunday afternoon's road stage he consolidated his position in the general standings to run out the runner-up, just three seconds down on the yellow jersey.

He had demonstrated his form the weekend earlier when taking 6th in the A1-A2 Rás Luimní in Caherconlish, Co, Limerick. A very strong rider, he won the A3 race at the Boyne GP in Co Meath last year.

The third placed in man in the new A2 rankings, Dylan Foley of Aquablue has had the strongest start to the season of any A2 rider in the country but has opted to ride the hardest races he can find as he pursues U23 national selection.

He represented Ireland at junior level throughout last season and made the teams for both the road and track world championships.

Among his better results in 2014 to date, he was 2nd in the Lacey Cup in Tralee on the opening day of the season and was 3rd in the Cycleways Cup two weeks ago.

He also put in a very good solo effort on the final lap of the Bobby Power Memorial in Carrick on St Patrick's Day last Monday but was overhauled before the finish.

The rankings below are provisional, according to Cycling Ireland.
