The first races and sportives on the island of Ireland after the Covid-18 lockdown have been given the green light in Northern Ireland from this weekend

The first races and sportives on the island of Ireland can recommence in Northern Ireland from this Friday, April 23rd.

Cycling Ulster has this evening
confirmed the Northern Ireland Executive has decided to relax Covid-19
regulations sufficiently to enable competitive events take place again from
April 23rd.

The provincial cycling association has set out the new
rules, and their implications, for club, group and individual training as
follows:

  • Outdoor sport organised by an affiliated club, individual or individuals will be extended to include squad training. Cycling Ireland recommends training groups are kept small.

When it comes to races and sportives, Cycling Ulster
says:

  • Outdoor sport organised by a club, individual or individuals affiliated, with numbers not exceeding 100 and no spectators permitted can return. The figure includes an event organising team and volunteers, which effectively means a maximum of 80 riders.

Cycling Ulster has also specified the following rules for
events:

  • Races and sportives are open to members with a Northern Ireland address only. If you are not living in Northern Ireland, you are not permitted to travel to events in Northern Ireland.
  • Races and sportives are open to Cycling Ireland members only. Online entry only via the CI events calendar and no ODL available.
  • Purchase or upgrade your licence before 9am on Wednesday to ensure delivery in advance of the weekend.
  • Covid-19 is still circulating in the community. You must take personal responsibility for your health and safety when deciding to participate in events or train with others.
  • Event organisers wishing to host events in 2021 should submit details onto the Cycling Ireland Permit System as early as possible.
