Some Cycling Ireland National Road Series races at risk for lack of support

Some of the Cycling Ireland National Road Series races due to take place this weekend as part of the John Beggs promotion are at risk due to lack of interest from riders.

While the A1-A2 men’s race is on track to go ahead, there
are concerns about the combined elite and junior women’s race and also the
standalone junior men’s race.

The promoting club, Banbridge Cycling Club, has urged
riders intending to ride the races to get their entries in as soon as possible.

As things stand at present, the club has said it may have to merge some of the races if it does not get the numbers to run them as separate events, as planned.

“Disappointing uptake on entries
for the junior men and elite-junior women's races so far,” the clubs said on
social media.

“Unless there is a significant
increase on entries for the races consideration will be given to merging them
with other races being promoted on the day.”

The club is also promoting an undercard A3 race on the
day. Unlike the other three races, the A3 event is not part of the Cycling
Ireland National Road Series.

The John Beggs Memorial this Saturday is the third round
of the series and follows on from two very successful opening rounds.

The latest round took place the weekend before last at
the Newcastle West State Race promoted by Newcastle West Wheelers in Co
Limerick. The A1-A2 event was won by Liam Curley, the women’s event claimed by
Fiona Mangan and the junior men’s race taken by Dean Harvey.
