Enda Smyth is in good form with a second personal best in two days

 

Enda Smyth has set his second personal best of the London Paralympic Games, with a time of 3:47.542 in the Individual Pursuit C3 qualifiers this morning. He shaved a very significant five seconds off his previous Irish record and took seventh in today’s event.

He adds the new mark in the pursuit to the personal best he set in the 1km TT yesterday.

The Dubliner’s preparations for the Games were disrupted by a broken elbow and yesterday he suffered another setback when he pulled a muscle as he blasted out of the start gate in the 1km TT.

He was delighted with his performance today and paid tribute to coach Brian Nugent, team manager Denis Toomey and team stalwart Gerry Beggs.

“I’m over the moon, I am producing times that I have only ever dreamed of. I just did a 3.47, that’s unbelievable. None of this is possible without the strong support team that we have. I mean, I have the easy job; I just have to race. But these guys piece me together, they make it all happen.”
