A crash on a sketchy descent in the wet has seen Aleksandr Vlasov (Astana-Premier Tech) crash hard while Vuelta race leader Odd Christian Eiking (Intermarché-Wanty-Gobert Matériaux) also came down on today's stage 17.

They were taking the final descent of the day, off La Collada Llomena, when Vlasov was among a number of those who came off by the roadside on a sweeping left hander.

Eiking, who was trying to fight his way back to the group having been dropped on the climb, rounded the corner and as he caught sight of the fallers just ahead, he also crashed.

While it looked like Vlasov had fallen very hard and might be out of the race, he eventually remounted and got going again, as did Eiking, with just under 50km still to race.

Both riders had been part of a select group going up the climb, and down the other side, that was over one minute down on leaders Egan Bernal (Ineos Grenadiers) and Primoz Roglic (Jumbo Visma).

More to come.
