A six-rider Irish national junior team has been named for the upcoming Peace Race in Czechia, which is part of the UCI Junior Nations Cup, mainly contest by national teams from around the world.

The announcement a team will contest the race is a welcome development following much fewer national team opportunities on offer to junior riders in recent years.

The race will be fought out over four days next month, from Thursday to Sunday May 2nd to 5th, with four road race stages ranging from 61km to 134km.

The team is comprised of:

  • Josh Callaly
  • Patrick Casey
  • Joseph Mullen
  • Seth Dunwoody
  • Conor Prendergast
  • Cal Tutty

At present Casey, riding for his trade team GRENKE-AutoEder, is leading the Eroica Juniores Nations Cup race in Italy.

Cycling Ireland national development coach, Michael Black, said the strength and depth of the team shows the continued focus from Cycling Ireland on youth athlete development and creating a high performance pathway.

“We are delighted to announce the six riders for the first Nations Cup Race as a Junior team," he said. "The depth and quality of talented junior riders at the minute has made our team selection very difficult and we easily could have selected two very competitive teams.

“We are confident we can make an impact on the race and build on the individual success shown by these riders in the last number of weeks.”
