Shorts: Soler breaks both arms; video shows mother snatch child from Tour crash

Marc Soler limps home today in last place but he has since be diagnosed with fractures to both arms and he is out of the Tour de France

Marc Soler of Movistar is out of the Tour de France after his team said he had fractured both arms in one of the two major crashes on stage 1 today.

The Spanish rider, who abandoned the Giro earlier in the year, came down hard in the first crash today and though he finished the stage he limped home just ahead of the broom wagon in last place.

Soler, who was one of Movistar's main riders for the Tour, lost 24:38 to stage winner Julian Alaphilippe (Deceuninck-QuickStep) after coming down very hard in the crash with 45km to go. It was caused by a spectator stepping into the road while holding a sign.

"We sadly confirm Marc Soler has fractured both arms' radial heads and his left ulnar head after today's Tour. Get well soon, mate," Movistar said in a statement.

The radius bone goes from elbow to wrist and the radial head is at the top of the radius bone, just below the elbow. The ulnar bone is the secondary bone of the forearm and the head of that bone is the one closest to the hand.
