The Bora-hansgrohe WorldTour team has suffered a bad crash incident out training during a pre-season camp in Italy where a group of them was hit by a driver in a car in the Lake Garda area.

It appears seven riders in total were involved in the crash and that at least three were taken to hospital for various injuries, including new signing and 3rd overall in the Giro last year Wilco Kelderman.

“Today during training, several of
our riders were involved in an accident with a car,” the team confirmed on a
brief statement.

“Wilco Kelderman, Rüdiger Selig and
Andreas Schillinger were taken to hospital, all conscious. Wilco and Rudi have
sustained concussion, while Andreas is awaiting final examinations.”

The three others who were also involved but, like Schachmann, did not need to go to hospital and were able to go back to the team hotel were Marcus Burghardt, Anton Palzer and Michael Schwarzmann.

One of the team’s young Dutch riders, Ide Schelling, took
to Strava to leave a message about the crash, which was later added to by the
team.

“There was a major crash with a car. All riders have
crashed. Today I had an angel
on my shoulders, as I decided not to join the group for an extra half hour,” he said.

“I hope everyone is doing well. I don't know anything else yet, but keep a close eye on BORA-hansgrohe's social media."
