Sequence of photos of nasty Rás Luimni crash, with riders landing in a thorny deep ditch

Yesterday in the A4 race at Rás Luimni, www.blackumbrella.ie photographer Adrian O'Connor was there when a crash occurred in the field, sending some of the riders flying into the deep ditch at the side of the road.

Quick-off-the-mark O'Connor shot this set of photos of the collision's immediate aftermath in Caherconlish, Co Limerick.

Most of the riders remounted and barrelled on up the road after the bunch, shrugging off hitting the deck on a wet and windy day.

For others, the struggle was to get upright again, having gone flying deep down into the ditch at the side of the road, with the commissaire going in to fish one of the lads out.

Thankfully for all involved there were no serious injuries.

The guys hit the deck, with photographer Adrian O'Connor instantly getting his shots from the back of his motorbike. The rear of the field is only yards up the road, indicating how quickly the Black Umbrella man reacted.
