Youth riders who believe they will be in contention for the national team at the European Youth Olympic Festival in the summer are now able to express their interest in being selected.
The Games, which are the biggest international racing opportunity for youth riders during the season, involve road race, TT and MTB XC events.

Lara Gillespie, now a World Tour pro, previously won silver in the TT at the Games when she was just starting cycling while reigning Irish junior TT champion, Conor Murphy, claimed silver in the TT two years ago.

Greta Lawless took a top 10 in the MTB event, also two years ago, and the 2025 Irish national youth team will be hoping to maintain that record of competing for medals in July.

The 2025 Games take place in from July 20th to 25th in Skopje, North Macedonia. The national team will consist of a maximum of three riders, for both male and female events, for the road and one male and female for the MTB XC races.

He added the expression of interest process and setting out how selection works was part of Cycling Ireland's efforts to make the process as transparent as possible for all riders and parents.

"Competing at the EYOF is a fantastic opportunity for young athletes to gain invaluable international experience in a multi-sport environment, and we want to ensure that those selected are as prepared as possible to perform at their best," he said.

"We strongly encourage all eligible athletes to familiarise themselves with the policy, engage fully in the process, and continue striving for excellence as they work towards potential selection for this prestigious event."

The expression of interest form is available here and riders must be on the Olympic Federation of Ireland (OFI) longlist to be considered for nomination.

"To achieve that, it’s imperative that this expression of interest form is completed," Cycling Ireland said. It added it was "unable to consider any athlete for nomination that has not been accepted on the OFI longlist."
