
Another cyclist has died on Irish roads less than 24 hours after a man was killed while cycling. Both deaths, of men in their 60s, occurred in Co Cork.
In the latest incident, a man in his 60s was fatally
injured in a crash off his bike at about 10.20am today, Sunday.
Gardai do not believe any other road user was involved in
the incident that resulted in the man’s death, according to a statement from
Garda Headquarters.
“Gardaí are investigating a fatal road traffic incident involving a cyclist that occurred in Glenville, Co Cork, on Sunday,” the statement said.
“At approximately 10.20am a male cyclist, aged in his
60s, was seriously injured after falling from his bike while cycling on the
R614 at Ballybrack.
“He was taken by ambulance to Cork University Hospital
where he was later pronounced dead. It’s understood no other vehicle was involved
in this incident.
“The scene was examined by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators and the local coroner has been notified of the death.”
Gardai in Fermoy are investigating the man’s death and
have appealed for anyone with information to contact them on (025) 82100 or on
the Garda Confidential Line at 1800 666 111.
The death of the man followed another crash on Saturday evening at about 7pm on Lower Corkhill Road, Youghal, co Cork.
The cyclist, who was also a man in his 60s, was involved
in a crash with a driver in a car and was pronounced dead at the scene.
