Second boy (11) tragically killed cycling after being hit by car

After the tragic death of a 13-year-old boy out cycling, gardai are now investigating the death of an 11-year-old who was hit by a car this morning.

 

A young boy has sadly lost his life after he was struck by a car while cycling his bike this morning.

The child (11) was pronounced dead at the scene of the collision in Co Offaly.

His death is the second in as many weeks involving children cycling their bikes being fatally struck by vehicles.

A 13-year-old boy died last week after being hit by a car on Sunday, August 21st, at about 8.30pm on the N51, Slane Road, Drogheda, Co Louth.

The child was treated in Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda but died there two days later.

In this morning’s crash the 11-year-old victim was hit by a car at about 9.15am at Marshbrook, on the R446 old Dublin to Galway Road.

A Garda statement confirmed the boy was pronounced dead at the scene.

“The body remains at the scene which has been preserved and diversions are in place,” the statement said.
