Sean Kelly revisits famous Paris-Roubaix shower bearing his name

One of the unusual things about winning Paris-Roubaix is that they name a shower in the velodrome after you.

A winner of Paris-Roubaix twice during his career - in 1984 and 1986 - Sean Kelly joined the legends of the sport in more ways than one.

Not only has he two lumps of pavé as trophies to remember his wins, but a shower in the Roubaix velodrome also bears a little plaque with his name.

It's an unusual custom but one that persisted down the years; naming one of the old shower cubicles after each winner.

And when the race visited the velodrome yesterday, Kelly went to look at his little piece of history and even jumped into the shower cubicle for a quick photo!

Now that the teams have luxury coaches on which to wash after the races, fewer riders have a shower in the velodrome.

The hot water supply can be limited so if you don't get in and get scrubbed up in the first wave of riders you can be left with cold water.

Kelly was once asked what it was like to face the cold waters after such a long race.

He replied that he wouldn't know as he'd never had a cold shower after Paris-Roubaix. Nice.

Those Carrick-on-Suir lads (wait for it......) really are an awful shower. Stay classy!
