Sam Bennett saw his challenge at the World Championships in Yorkshire end with some 75km remaining.
The Carrick-on-Suir man had held his place in the ever-reducing peloton as the race progressed.
He was supported very well by Ireland team mates Conor Dunne and Ryan Mullen as the race traveled from Leeds towards Harrogate for nine laps of the finishing circuit.
The three Irish riders could be seen close to the front of the peloton, with Bennett clearly being kept out of trouble very nicely.
However, when the circuits began the Irish challenge began to fade and soon Bennett was the sole rider left in what remained of the main peloton.
And while he appeared to look comfortable - albeit in brutally wet conditions on a technical course - he was clearly feeling the pinch.
Just as live TV pictures returned with 75km remaining, Bennett was seen slipping off the back of the group, clearly under pressure.
While the end of his challenge is a big disappointment, he has enjoyed a fantastic season.
We will have more later on the Irish in Harrogate.
