Sam Bennett was shattered after today's stage at La Vuelta and the speed numbers show why. It was an incredible day with cross-tail winds

Sam Bennett was shattered after taking 2nd place on an epic stage 17 at La Vuelta today.

The Bora-hansgrohe rider was on his own in a huge breakaway that began with about 40 riders but was whittled down during a day when there was no respite.

Deceuninck-QuickStep placed seven of its eight riders in the move and at the finish they played it cleverly; effectively working over Bennett who finished 2nd to Philippe Gilbert.
