Sam Bennett set for three stage win chances against stacked sprint field

Sam Bennett will be back in action at Tour de Hongrie, with three chances of a sprint win but with some big names to beat

Sam Bennett is back in action - with his biggest lead-out train of the season to date - at the Tour de Hongrie, for five stages of racing, getting underway today.

However, while Bennett should get multiple chances to win, aided by significant team support, he will also have to overcome some big name rivals if he is to collect his second win of the season. Indeed, the quality of the sprint line-up set to do battle in Hungary is better than that competing in the Giro d'Italia at present.

There are three stages in Hungary that look like opportunities for the sprinters; today's 168.6km race into Szentgotthárd, tomorrow's 175.3km stage into Keszthely and Sunday's 150km finale into Budapest.

Bennett is part of a Bora-hansgrohe team that also includes lead-out riders Ryan Mullen, Danny van Poppel and Shane Archbold. The line-up is completed by British sprinter Matthew Walls - still searching for form after a bad crash on the track at the Commonwealth Games last year - and Italian Matteo Fabbro.

Bennett will face familiar sprint rivals Fabio Jakobsen (Soudal-QuickStep), Elia Viviani (Ineos Grenadiers), Phil Bauhaus (Bahrain-Victorious), Dylan Groenewegen (Team Jayco AlUla), Álvaro José Hodeg (UAE Team Emirates) and Caleb Ewan (Lotto Dstny).
