Sam Bennett set to turn out with Peter Sagan for season debut

Sam Bennett enjoyed a fantastic end to last season; three stages and a classification jersey in Turkey bringing that campaign to an end. And he will look to get the new season off to a flying start when he rides the Vuelta a San Juan in a selection that includes Peter Sagan.

Sam Bennett is limbering up for his opening race of the season and has been named in the same selection as Peter Sagan.

Bennett will get his 2019 campaign underway at Vuelta San Juan (2.1) in Argentina. It begins on Sunday and features six road stages and a 12km TT on the third day.

While Sagan has already ridden the Tour Down Under and claimed a stage win there, the race in Argentina will be Bennett’s first test of his form after the winter break.

As well as his team mate Sagan, there are some very fast finishers in the race that Bennett will go up against.

Fernando Gaviria (UAE Team Emirates) is in the start list along with Mark Cavendish (Dimension Data) and Álvaro José Hodeg (Deceuninck-Quick Step).

Of the seven stages, two – including the opener – look like nailed-on sprint finishes.
