Sam Bennett has said as he and his team
mates continued to work together in the sprints of major races they are getting
to know each other better and working to win is becoming second nature.
Speaking after winning stage 6 of UAE
Tour today, which ended in a bunch sprint, Bennett said he wouldn’t have taken
the win without his team.
The in the finale today, Deceuninck-QuickStep brought Bennett and his lead-out man Michael Mørkøv close to the front of the bunch before Mørkøv did a perfect final lead-out and Bennett won the sprint by a big margin from Elia Viviani (Cofidis).
Bennett (30) avareged 72km per hour for 10 seconds in his dash to the line into Palm Jumeirah at the end of 165km of racing today.
“The more sprints we do together, the better we’re
getting and it’s becoming more second nature,” Bennett said when asked about
his and his team’s success.
“It’s just about repeating the same things and also
making decisions in the final… we’re really getting to know each other, the
whole team, and we’re pretty much nailing it at the minute.”
Asked about the prospects of winning the final stage
tomorrow, Bennett laughed at the prospect of having to race again, just moments
after climbing of his bike.
“Oh, I don’t know,” he laughed. “I mean, I really want it. We’ll, for sure, go for it again, but it’s always hard. We’ll trying again.”
