Sam Bennett is training with one serious group in Monaco

You'd really want to have your training done even to be able to go training with this lot; Sam Bennett leads the pro chaingang out of Monaco.

Sam Bennett is living in Monaco these days, with half the pro peloton, and does his training from the principality and into the neighbouring south of France.

And if you were ever in town and decided to latch onto the back of his training group, you’d really want to have had a second bowel of porridge that morning and have a good few gels with you!

Carrick-on-Suir fastman Bennett posted a selfie last night showing him leading the group yesterday morning as it was heading out of Monaco.

“We left Monaco and with up a few hills; Le Turbie, Peille, Col de Braus, Sospel, across to Ventimiglia for lunch, then Menton and home.

“We did 100km in four hours, with 2,053m altitude. It was just a light endurance ride.”

So there you have folks; no winter warriors here!

The strength in depth in the chaingang would make your eyes water.

From Team Sky we have tours of Britain and Romandie stage winner Luke Rowe (26), Vuelta stage winner and Donegal’s finest Philip Deignan (33), US powerhouse Ion Boswell (25), Vuelta stage winner Kenny Elissonde (25) and the emerging Alex Peters (22) who was runner-up in the Rás aged just 19 years in 2014.

Also in the group from Team Sky with Bennett is Tour of Lombardy runner-up from last month and Vuelta Ciclista al Pais Vasco stage winner Diego Rosa (27) and Liège-Bastogne-Liège and Volta a la Comunitat Valenciana overall winner Wout Poels (29).

Reinier Honig (Team Vorarlberg) is also in the group; the 33-year-old’s 3rd place in the World Ports Classic one of his highlights to date.

Steven Kruijswijk (Lotto-NL Jumbo) is also there; the 29-year-old having finished 4th in the Giro this year.

And but for a late crash into a show drift while leading the race he would have won or certainly been on the final podium.

Bauke Mollema (Trek-Segafredo) is also getting the miles in with Bennett in this group; the 30-year-old’s victory in Clasica Ciclista San Sebastian the best result in a big season for him this year.

And while Caleb Ewan (Orica-BikeExchange) is a sprint rival of Bennett, he is also training with him – the 22-year-old Australian having taken five wins this year and won a stage in the Vuelta last year.

And last but certainly not least is a man we’ll hopefully be writing plenty about in the next year, the 22-year-old emerging Australian Calvin Watson.

He rode for An Post-Chainreaction this year and has just announced a move to Ireland’s new ProContinental team Aqua Blue Sport.

The former Trek Factory ride won the Herald Sun Tour in 2013 and he’ll be looking for results like that with his new team.
