Sam Bennett has told The Late Late Show host Ryan Tubridy when he was a kid he dreamed of even being among the Tour de France peloton rolling into Paris so he'd have some footage of himself in the race.
In an interview on last night's show on RTE 1 Bennett (29) said he had been on a high since the Tour ended last Sunday.
He had been so pumped up by the whole experience of winning the green jersey and two stages, including the finale into Paris, he had only slept for three hours some nights since last weekend and couldn't sit still.

Appearing on the show via video link during a pre-recorded interview, Bennett said it was hard to process the fact he had achieved his Tour dream.
"I never could have dreamed of doing it in the green jersey and actually winning it and now I have footage of that, so this is just a dream," he laughed.
Bennett showed Tubridy one of the green jerseys, with race numbers, he had worn during the Tour, adding he wouldn't wash it because he had to retain it in its original state, even if there was a bit of a smell off it.
He also revealed his Deceuninck-QuickStep team boss Patrick Lefevere had taken the customised bike he won in Paris on for the team's special collection, adding jokingly that he wanted it back so he could keep it himself but was unsure how far he could push the boss.
His remarks on that issue were good-humoured and made during a light-hearted exchange with host Tubridy.
Bennett's special edition bike for the occasion was a green S-Works Tarmac SL7. The customised paint job features the slogan "Together We Win" on the top tube
