An Post-Chainreaction have not let the grass grow under their feet since the departure of their star turn Sam Bennett last week, with news that world class time trial rider Ryan Mullen has been signed for next year.

Mullen has just concluded his first year in the U23 ranks with the IG Sigma Sport Continental ranked team. He has been based in Britain this year where he lives but will move to Belgium to ride with An Post Chainreaction next year.

As well as Bennett, the team also had a number of other Irish riders this year in the shape of Sean Downey, Jack Wilson and Ronan McLaughlin.

Belgian-based U23 international Conor Dunne looks set to join the team for 2014, though that has yet to be confirmed.

British rider Owain Doull, who is a member of the Team GB panel, has also been signed by An Post-Chainreaction. He is the latest British rider to be signed by the team and it appears he has joined at the behest of the national set-up as An Post-Chainreaction’s relationships deepens with Team GB.

Mullen is coming off the back of an excellent season which saw him take two bronze medals in the European U23 Track Championships in Portugal and finish a fine seventh place in the U23 time trial at the World Championships in Florence.

He continued this outstanding form only yesterday when he claimed a strong victory at the Chrono des Nations U23 (1.2U) individual time trial in France.

Doull is also a very promising rider, having won the points jersey in the An Post Rás this year.

An Post-Chainreaction manager, Kurt Bogaerts said he was sorry to see Bennett go but was very much looking forward to working with Doull and Mullen.

“It’s a bittersweet feeling with Sam. I am obviously delighted for him and he deserves this move because he is a very talented rider and he has worked extremely hard for this. At the same time he has been here for three years and I am sad to see him go.”

“However, I think we have signed two of the best young talents around in Ryan Mullen and Owain Doull. I am really looking forward to working with them both and I think they will be great additions to our squad for next year.”
