Mullen already has a TT win to his name this season; from the Vuelta San Juan in Argentina at the start of the season.

Since then he has enjoyed a solid classics campaign. And he goes into the Giro with two things in mind; the TTs and surviving to the finish.

The opening TT in Jerusalem next Friday is a flat 9.9km; a profile and distance that can really suit the Irish rider.

There is another individual time trial on stage 16. It takes the riders 34.2km from Trento to Rovereto.

And while it is a little longer than Mullen specialises in, it will be interesting to see how he rides.

However, his key focus going into the race will be the opening test; trying to upset the big guns for his own Giro glory.
