Roy Keane on his fitness levels, cycling efforts | "I'm not exactly Sean Kelly"

Roy Keane says the only training he is doing these days is a bit of cycling, adding he has picked up too many injuries to run

Known for his uncompromising approach on and off the pitch, Irish soccer legend Roy Keane continued to follow a demanding fitness regime for years after he stopped playing.

However, it's now some 16 years after his last season in the game - with Celtic - and the 50-year-old says he has long let go of his training regime. He added he had picked up so many injuries during his playing days that he can no longer run, insisting his efforts at cycling are not up to much.

Keane told Off The Ball his fitness levels were so bad now that he declined to play in any of the 'legends' games - featuring former pros and usually played for charity - as he simply would not be up to it.

"I'm not fit. I'm far from fit. My fitness levels are actually very, very embarrassing. Just because I've not put on loads of weight doesn't mean to say I'm fit. I wouldn't really be able to do any running," he said.

"Put it this way, I've been invited a number of times over the last few years to play legends games or whatever you want to call it. I'd find it really difficult because I wouldn't be able to get around. Too many injury problems.

"I try to have a decent diet and I'm obviously weary about putting on too much weight. But I certainly wouldn't be fit enough to go on any sort of run. I do a small bit of cycling but even that - I'm not exactly Sean Kelly."
