Roy Keane joins the cycling revolution (but with dodgy comments)

Roy Keane is getting out on his bike these days, but has also invited people to run him over if they ever saw him wearing lycra - not an ideal start to his cycling career

Roy Keane, probably Ireland's best ever soccer play and a legend of Irish sport, has succumbed to the cycling revolution.

However, any hopes Keane may be about to turn up at an A4 bunch near you post-pandemic or join the IVCA have been dashed as he says he won't ever wear lycra.

Keane - perhaps with a little to learn about road safety and conditions on the roads for cyclists - also invited people to run him over if they ever saw him in full cycling kit.

"I’ll wear the helmet but if you see me wearing lycra, run me over," he said on Instagram with a photo of himself wearing a cycling helmet and shades.

Keane, a soccer manager after his playing days now turned TV pundit, only joined Instagram two weeks ago and though he has only posted five times he has 1.2 million followers.

However, while inviting people to run him over if they saw him wearing lycra wasn't an ideal start to his cycling career, it's progress on just two years ago when he said he'd never go cycling (below), insisting he'd never wear cycling gear.
