There have been some changes to the road race fixtures in the weeks ahead with one event called off and another reschedule from earlier in the year.

Back in March the Newbridge GP, set to be promoted by
Newbridge Cycling Club, was called off on the morning of the event.

Hosts Newbridge Cycling Club took to Facebook to say they
had no option but to cancel the event.

“Due to Order of Malta ambulance service cancelling on us
at 12pm last night, the 2019 Newbridge GP has to be cancelled,” it said at the
time.

“We pride ourselves on the safety of all riders and have
exhausted all avenues to try to get a replacement ambulance but without
success. The event cannot go ahead. This was out of our control.”

However, two months on now and the news is better, with the race having found a new date the weekend after next.

It will now take place on Sunday week, May 19th, and
we’ll bring you more details when he have it.

Unfortunately just as that race has been added to the
calendar for May, another event has been cancelled.

Drogheda Wheelers, a prolific organiser of fantastic
races it must be said, has had to call off the Dunsany GP which had been set
for the coming weekend.

“Due to unforeseen circumstances here in Drogheda
Wheelers, the Dunsany GP scheduled for this Saturday, May 11th, is postponed,”
the club said.

“It is the hope of the club that we will be able to
reschedule and run the event at a later date.

“But we feel we have made the correct decision in light
of recent events. Please share the word amongst the cycling community.”
