New Irish cycling retailer signs riders, launches unique club nights

The cycling apparel is based on quality and sharp style. And combining that offering with the launch of nights for clubs, Gentlemen of the Peloton's offering is unique in the Irish market.

New quality cycling apparel retailer Gentlemen of the Peloton has signed a number of Irish riders as brand ambassadors as part of impressive plans to launch into the Irish market.

Not content with selling many of cycling’s best known luxury brands, owners Duane and Lowell McCreadie have also begun taking their offerings on the road to clubs nationwide.

Combining with a number of other boutique cycling businesses, the first Velo Club night was held in Belfast just before Christmas.

“I’ve come together with a number of other Irish businesses who are passionate about quality products and design in cycling to offer clubs a different experience,” Duane McCreadie explains.

“We’ll hold a night for clubs in their local coffee shop. It's an evening of cycling art and display bikes with our cycling apparel on show.

“It’s about bringing our offering to clubs, all wrapped up in a great night out where riders have the opportunity to come together for something a bit different. A real social evening.”

The club nights are something of a roving experience; going to a café of your choice for your club for a night of bikes and stylish apparel and bikes; and inevitable talk of cycling. Your club can join forces with other clubs and the show will come to you as a group.

Gentlemen of the Peloton stocks brands such as PEdAL ED, Assos, Ashmei, Adidas Cycling range, Paul Smith and Pacific & Company.

Other brands are coming on stream soon including a Scandinavian glasses line, Bliz Performance eyewear, and Stance cycling socks.

McCreadie says he wants to bring a quality cycling experience to cyclists in Ireland who love riding their bikes but who want to do it with a bit of style.

And while the Irish market is his focus, his apparel is selling through the store’s website in many other countries.

With that in mind, Gentlemen of the Peloton has signed up a number of Irish and international brand ambassadors.

In keeping with its focus on performance and style, the online retailer has chosen a mix of top riders and others whose main focus is cycling for the love of it.

Darnell Moore, an international road race rider and Ireland’s U23 road champion and former elite cyclocross champion, has been snapped up.

Stephen Murphy, from St Tiernan’s CC in Dublin, is also on the retailer’s ambassadors teams.

While he races, he has a passion for documenting Dublin from the saddle via his @cyclinginireland Instagram account.

Youth and old school

Joining him is Monica Freiband; a hardy American living and racing in Ireland these days.

She hit the headlines last year when she battled to the end of Rás na mBan despite breaking a shoulder just short of the final chequered flag.

Paul McArthur, an old-school over 50s racer from North Down Cycling Club, is also a Gentlemen of the Peloton ambassador.

“He’s a really prolific cyclist, with a huge knowledge for training and all-round passion for fitness,” says McCreadie.

Completing the eclectic small team of ambassadors is French-based triathlete and Specialized ambassador Becky Hair @tri_raving; Barcelona-based Simon Villmow, @simoniuspascalus, and London-based Marcos Lopez, @marcos_outcasts.
