Rás Mumhan riders disqualified; fines, penalties for others

The Kerry Group Rás Mumhan commissaire has disqualified three riders. And 10 other riders or teams have been warned over various incidents.

In one case a rider was issued with a €50 fine and also suffered a one minute time penalty for “failure to obey statutory traffic regulations or laws”.

In his case that meant cycling on a footpath in a non built-up area. The incident occurred on stage 1 yesterday.

However, when the commissaire’s communiqué for stage 2 was published today the incident from the previous day was included.

Today other riders were disqualified having been judged to have held onto their team cars at some point.

Riders will hold a team car briefly when receiving mechanical or medical assistance on the go. But the commissaire clearly was not happy with the way three riders held their vehicles.

All three were disqualified from the race. Their teams were also fined €40 and their cars relegated to the back of the cavalcade for tomorrow’s stage 3.

In three other cases the drivers of team cars were asked to report to the commissaire before the start of the third stage. However, no reason for the request was stated.

On what was a busy day for the commissaire, another rider was fined €20 for littering.

Two other riders were penalised for mechanical servicing on the wrong side of the road. Both riders had a 10 second time penalty imposed.

And three other teams were given a warning for a first offence. Two of those teams had failed to obey an instruction of the commissaire. The other was warned for feeding a rider in front of the comm’s car.

It was less busy at the Gorey Three Day where only one sanction was imposed. A team was fined €20 for passing riders without permission.
