Juan Sebastian Molano is out of the Giro after missing the time cut on today's stage 14 TT following a freak crash.
The Colombian riding for UAE Team Emirates was flung off his bike as he took a right hand bend and was thrown into the side of the road as his bike went in the direction of a spectator.
He was changing the position of his hands on the bars at the time and it appeared the left side of the his TT bars were lose. The left 'ski' moved a little (as is visible in the close-up video at the bottom of this story) when he placed his forearm on the bars, effectively steering him into the barriers at the side of the road.
He was clearly shocked by the speed of the crash and initially looked like he may not continue in the race. However, he got up off the road and back onto his bike before struggling to the finish.
Not surprisingly, he was last man in the test, but unfortunately was outside the time limit.
At the time of writing he was out of the race due to missing the time cut, though teams can appeal if they feel there are extraordinary circumstances that should be taken into consideration.
The 34.1km TT was won by Filippo Ganna, the Ineos Grenadiers rider and world champion taking his third stage win of the race.
He beat his team mate Rohan Dennis by 26 seconds, with Brandon McNulty (UAE Team Emirates) in 3rd at 1:09.
In the race for the maglia rosa, João Almeida (Deceuninck-QuickStep) has retained, and indeed extended, his lead at the top of the standings.
The 22-year-old from Portugal finished in 6th place today, some 1:31 down on Ganna, but ahead of all of his rivals for the general classification.
He beat Wiclo Kelderman (Trek Segafredo) by just 16 seconds and now has a lead of 56 seconds over him in the overall.
With Kelderman 2nd overall and the jury still out on whether Almeida can sustain his effort for three weeks, Kelderman is now increasingly fancied to win overall.
After today's TT, Pello Bilbao (Bahrain-McLaren) is 3rd overall at 2:11, McNulty is 4th at 2:23 and Vincenzo Nibali (Trek-Segafredo) is 5th at 2:30.
