Orica-BikeExchange took home the victory - with Svein Tuft and Luke Durbridge too good for the rest - but the event was marred by the death of a rider hit by a support vehicle that appeared to swerve into his path just before the finish.
A 61-year-old amateur cyclist from London has died from injuries sustained in a collision with a car during a race in France.
Ian Bashford died when he was hit by a support vehicle during the 35th Duo Normand race.
Police are investigating why the vehicle had swerved into his path just before the finish line.
His cycling club, Old Portlians CC from Kent, confirmed his death in a statement on Facebook, saying the tragic incident happened during the final descent to the finish line.
“It is with a huge sadness that we announce the death of Ian Bashford this morning in an accident at the Duo Normand. Our thoughts are with his wife and family at this sad time,” read the statement.
The Duo Nomand is a two-up time-trial race on a 54km road circuit in Normandy.
The event has taken place each year since 1982 and attracts riders of all ages and levels.
The elite contest today was won by Orica-BikeExchange pair Svein Tuft and Luke Durbridge with Danish team Almeborg-Bornholm second and FDJ third.
