The number of Irish riders who can compete in all of the road races and TT races at the World Road Championships has been confirmed by the UCI.
The UCI has confirmed the allocations for all nations across all of the road race and TT events at the World Road Championships in Doha in October.
The news is mixed for Ireland, with a relatively small team in the elite men’s race but a larger team in the U23 men’s race than we have enjoyed before.
The Worlds take place in Doha later than usual this year; from October 9th to 16th.
In the elite men’s road race Ireland has qualified three riders and four riders in the U23 men’s road race.
And in each of the road races for elite men, junior women and junior men; Ireland is among a group of nations allocated the minimum three places.
It means Cycling Ireland can send road race teams numbering at least three riders to all five road races being held at the Worlds and can send one additional rider in both the U23 men’s and junior women’s road races.

Eddie Dunbar riding in the breakaway at the World Championships last year; he'll have team mates this time around.
Like all other nations, Ireland will also have two places available in the title races across the men’s and women’s elite, U23 and junior categories.
The biggest and most positive news for the Irish is the four-strong team qualified for the U23 men’s road race.
Ireland qualified no U23 team for the road race at the Worlds in the US last year and it was only at the behest of the UCI that the Irish were granted one place in the race.
That was taken by Eddie Dunbar, who rode very well but was always up against it in terms of chasing a result considering the strength of the opposition and the fact he was on his own.
But this year Ireland will have enough riders to nominate a protected team leader for whom the other three men on the team will work.
More later.
